Pope to appoint 19 new cardinals (21)
11 from outside Europe, 16 cardinal electors (ANSA) - Vatican City, February 22 - Pope Francis is set to appoint 19 new cardinals at a ceremony in the Vatican Saturday - the first consistory of his papacy - topping up the elite group that will be tasked with electing his successor as leader of the Catholic Church. The consistory starts at 11:00 local time (10:00 GMT).

Pope Francis installs 19 new cardinals (19)
Pope Francis is due to formally install 19 new cardinals in a ceremony at the Vatican later. They are the first to be chosen by Pope Francis, and reflect the diversity of the modern Catholic Church. The majority of those nominated are from outside Europe and North America. Cardinals are the most senior clergymen in the Roman Catholic Church below the Pope. Alan Johnston reports.
