Eric Lawson is the third actor to have portrayed the rugged all-American in the campaign to die of a smoking-related disease. A US actor who portrayed the rugged Marlboro man in cigarette adverts during the late 1970s and early 1980s has died from lung disease. Eric Lawson, who appeared in print Marlboro adverts between 1978 and 1981, died of respiratory failure due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
