JOHANNESBURG (AP) - U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken began his three-
nation tour of Africa with his arrival in South Africa on Sunday.
Blinken's visit to Africa is seen as part of a competition between Russia
and Western powers for support from African countries over the war in
Ukraine.

August 5, 2022, compared with $101.19 the previous day, according to OPEC
Secretariat calculations.

News - Middle East: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has promised to
defend the Philippines in the face of China's "destabilizing and dangerous"
actions, during a visit to the Southeast Asian country.
On a visit to Manila, Blinken met with the Philippines' newly elected
leader, President Ferdinand Marcos, on Friday.
Blinken reassured Marcos of Washington's full support in the face of what
he called China's "destabilizing and dangerous" actions.

NAIROBI, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) - Some 22.1 million Kenyans will vote on Aug. 9 to
elect, among others, the country's fifth president, members of the National
Assembly, senators, and county governors, according to the Independent
Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The polling stations across the country will be opened at 6 a.m., local
time, Tuesday, and close at 6 p.m.
